Aaaaaannnndddd
All of a sudden it’s April now.
And exam time.
And just 14 more days before I leave for Paris. =\ A tad nerve-wracking since I’ll be there alone for nearly 3 months, but at the same time horribly exciting. Ubisoft has decided to pay for my plane tickets there and back as well as supply me with a place to stay! =D And 19 restaurant vouchers per month. Lol. Also excited about visiting all the museums there with my parents while they are still there with me. It’s been a while since I got to hang out with them.
ONNNNN THE OTHER HAAAANNNDDD
The new “food complex” that has taken over Canteen A has risen out of the dust and apparent nowhere to become yet another gleaming heap of blue glass in the remote island of NTU.

Launched sometime last week, the “food complex” (I don’t like calling it that… Makes me think of it as this huge factory where they pump sustenance intravenously into willing starving subjects) now houses (since today’s sudden opening of Sakae Sushi)
- McDonalds
- Subway
- Canadian Pizza
- Old Chang Kee
- palette (not sure if I spelled it right)
- Sakae Sushi
And will soon be host to a food _________ (junction/exchange/something-that-doesn’t-sound-very-food-like-or-hygienic), some cafe thing and something else that slips my mind right now.
One of the first to open was The palette, a glowing mystery in the dark. The palette sells set and ala carte western meals. And their wide range of ala carte items drew the monstrous appetites of many an NTU student into its air-conditioned bowels. But to everyone’s utter dismay, for one entire week, their resplendent menu seemed reduced to “We oh-nee haf Teli-yaki chee-ken.”

Day one in the new canteen thing! Behind is the glowing sign of Canadian Pizza that my camera phone refused to capture (because it is just too high tech to do so).

We ate Canadian Pizza 3 days out of the 4 that we spent in the new canteen. And 2 out of those 3 times, our food came with a rudely unannounced “happy meal toy”. The playing of this toy involved wrangling fried hairs out of our pizza and calamari rings. Oh the joy.
But seriously, so far Canadian Pizza was the only one to not disappoint. That bad.
With the exclusion of Sakae Sushi today. You’ll see why in a bit.

We went for Rachel’s 21st birthday party at Timbre@The Arts House on Friday night! (obviously not shown in the picture below because I retardedly forgot to snap some pictures while I was out with the girls)
It was great though, hanging out with them again. Just the bunch of us. Teng and I bought Rachel a mini watermelon! with a very cute twirly stem. =D and a bunny thingy.
We then walked over to Some Quay (can’t tell the difference between Boat and Clark), sprinkling coins at the buskers we walked past, all the way to TCC where we had cake! And stopping along the way to scream at those taking the inverse bungee and extreme swing thing. (Teng was more excited than those actually on the ride)

A sudden picture of our guitars! Mine is bigger!

And now 2 minutes to rant about some weirdo who has been desecrating the 5th floor toilet. For the past months, everyday, 2 out of the 4 toilets in the 5th floor Block 3C toilet would be clogged. We deduced it must be the same person who attempts to flush 5 and a half rolls of toilet paper down the pipes in one go, and that that person goes to the toilet only twice a day. IRON BLADDER. Like me.
The worst came on Sunday night. When this shocking discovery was made in one of the cubicles.

Do you see it? Do you? Let me make the image a bit clearer. THERE’S SHIT ON THE FLOOR. What the hell. And it sat there for the entire day (from afternoon till the next morning). Does anyone notice how nicely formed it is as well?
Then last night, horror struck again when 3 of the 4 cubicles (as shown in picture below) became magically clogged! Toilet paper girl must have had indigestion. The last cubicle (the handicapped cubicle) had these creepy looking blood smears on the door lock (which I won’t delve further into explaining for the sake of the chicken pies in my tummy).

Urgh. Anyway…
We went to Sakae Sushi-NTU today! I think they just opened either today or yesterday. It was really nice. I love what they did with the space. We got to sit on bean bags! And have the manager dance in the background.

We were even given little froggy slippers to wear! (cause we all had to remove our shoes)

Perhaps we can have this idea in the cafe… =) Would be nice. though extremely filthy after a couple of months. Need to find those missing bean bags again. Frustrating how they keep going missing. And the nail-gnawing excitement of having our assets stock-taken is not extremely enjoyable.

I’m happy with the new sushi place!

And I love the slippers.

Today was coincidentally our last day opening the cafe. The past couple days, Teng and I have been running it alone so the committee members can study for their exams. Not too bad, studying while working. Managed to do some business finance, and finish my animatic. =) I’m still right on schedule. Tonight, after I finish my animation reel, I just need to concentrate on my 2 papers next week.

It’s been great, running the cafe. Watching people come by, sit down for a chat over a coffee, tell us they love the cafe, really made all the running about, fighting, incessant liaising, hundreds out of our own pockets really worthwhile. I sincerely hope the next committees would carry it on, and maybe, years from now when I come back to visit, it’ll still be there (preferably not still on that rickety cart).
We’ll be open for the last time this academic year specially for the best of ADM show. It’s been a good run. I’m very proud of the committee for sticking with me through this, though we’ve all got crazy amounts of work to do. Special thanks to Shao Ning who (though it’s really not in her portfolio to be doing so) really came through with the food and was always dependable in times of crisis (which was an every other day event).
All in all, I’m leaving on the 29th with a rather heavy heart that I won’t be able to be so hands on with the club. But the measures I’m putting in place should be ableĀ to keep things going swimmingly. =\
And of course I’m going to miss Teng Teng like a melted puddle of ice cream smeared across the sidewalk by a passing llama cart…
