Paris.

Posted by Ying Huang on April 30, 2008

Finally here after a horrid horrid HORRID 12.5hour flight that happened to be bucking like the back of a chicken with a rash. Every one of the 5 dramas, 3 movies and 2 documentaries I watched were plagued with that annoying “DING DONG” followed by some person’s voice about turbulent air I didn’t really want to hear about.

Took plenty of pictures of Terminal 3 (since I’ve never been there), this mountain of butter we saw there, my last local meal in Singapore (which turned out to be instant mee in a cool cardboard bowl), the AWESOME NEW ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM ON THE PLANE (I’m never flying anything but SIA from now on. MY GOD), first shots of Paris (just my first advertisement totally in French – which I coincidentally have no idea what it’s talking about), our hotel and the disastrous first room that has no cupboard or WALL OR WINDOW OR SOMETHING THAT SEPARATES THE TOILET FROM THE BEDROOM (this room was coincidentally very tiny. About the size of something you might confine crazed warthogs in), and finally the final room we got after showing our true Singaporean spirit (“Ying, go downstairs and complain with your mama”)

Plus the shower has more knobs and buttons than my TV set.

My butt aches, my lips are dry, I have no idea what anyone is saying on TV, I’m not really jet lagged, and my heart hurts just by being literally across the world from my baby… 16550.10km away…

Final Briefings…

Posted by Ying Huang on April 28, 2008

=) Today was the final briefing for the management committee before I leave for Paris tomorrow afternoon. I’m going to miss the day to day worrying and busying about ADM affairs. While I won’t be in the thick of things, I hope the measures I’ve set in place would keep things going in the club. =)

Took some photos with them before we went for lunch together at the new canteen A.

And they gave me stuff! Namely, some Famous Amos cookies, some prunes and orange peels for the flight, a bottle of moisturizer and a really really really nice card that made me feel all warm inside.

JIA YOU ARH!!!

ADM EOYP 07/08

Posted by Ying Huang on April 27, 2008

Photos from last night’s end of year party!!! (and one that’s not)

(this one actually)

Picture of the gantry I did not bang down. I’m serious. I just found it like that. And instead of driving off into the sunset, gloating about how I managed to save $1.55, I dutifully paid my money and shimmied around the poor mutilated gantry body.

Pictures from Lu’s camera while being on reception duty.

Last night’s turnout was great! I think we hit more than the expected 160. =) Jonathan and his team did a great job…

Management comm people sacrificing their time to act pitiful with me at the reception counter… I’m going to miss these guys!

Buffet line, after the carnage.

Stage games! (very badly documented by my camera)

Denise the Supermarket Beer Girl.

Lots to say about how this is my last event before I leave, how uncertainty yet a sense of confidence is lingering around my head like an old sock stuck on the wall with lichen… But shall save that for another post, another day, another half drowsy morning with my hair shooting straight up like a chicken from hell.

SHOCKING NEWS!!!!

Posted by Ying Huang on April 26, 2008

I was going to blog a little later, but seeing how my computer is on the brink of insanity (i.e., being a fruity piece of shit), I shall pause my epic adventure on Crisis Core to give you all shocking updates (I actually almost typed Edventure instead of adventure… NTU is seeping into my bones…)

First shocking news…

EXAMS ARE OVER!!! WHOO HOO! They were over on Wednesday, bringing this year’s traumatic series of TWO glorious, scalp-scratching, hair-pulling exams to a close. Business Finance, which I spent to much time mugging, wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I can now hope for a Satisfactory (this is the first time I’m using my S/U option… PLEASE LET ME PASS. I’M THAT DESPERATE.) Survey of New Media, as most elective history subjects in ADM go, was hilarious, watching the faces of stunned exam invigilators and calculator-wielding students as ADM students filed out of the room just 30 minutes into the paper.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Glory is ours.

Then came the second shocking news.

When I got back to hall, Teng received a message from her mom offering to fly her to see her sisters in Melbourne on Friday.

Now she’s in Melbourne.

=(

So sudden. And I feel strangely alone.

We didn’t even get to use our Bakerzin voucher, expiring 27th April…

=(

And I won’t get to see her again until 26th July…

T.T

Her mom said she might send her up in July though. Lol. Her mom is nice. And fun to talk to.

Her grandfather speaks hokkien. Not much to say about him cause I didn’t talk to him, but made me realise I understand Hokkien to some degree.

=)

but

=(

THIRD SHOCK

was when I came home yesterday bringing back all my shit from hall.

My parents have sold the Mazda.

T.T

My first car!!!! First time I drove. First time I washed a car. First time I fell asleep at the wheel. First accident. First trip to the mechanic. First flat tire.

=(

But it was just sitting there for the past 5 months since we got the mini. We simply don’t have enough drivers in the house to drive so many cars.

FOURTH SHOCKING UPDATE

I moved out of hall yesterday.

Since I’m leaving on Tuesday, I decided to be more organized and moved all my mess from hall to my living room, filling my house, once again, with my shit. And some shit to bring to Paris.

PARIS TRIP IS COMING. And I’m not ready. I haven’t finished my French course, which I will be cramming on the plane, and I haven’t finished packing, and I haven’t briefed my committee (meeting on Monday), and I haven’t repaired my phone, and I havent reached level 40 on my psp.

D=

WAH!

Photos!

New Gorillaz record! Gorgeous 4 sides of brilliant aural smackiness.

A trip to the doctor’s for a flu jab yesterday revealed that I had actually sprained my tendons in my finger when I happily smushed it in the door. So now my finger is in a cast and I am constantly rude.

=(

GAH!

TONIGHT END OF YEAR PARTY AT TIMBRE!!!

9…

Posted by Ying Huang on April 18, 2008

Fingers left.

Yesterday, I gloriously crushed the middle finger of my right hand in Teng’s door while it was doing its usual I’ll-just-slam-shut-on-the-last-20cm. My finger was happily wedged, not too sure how it got there, between the door and the door frame, on the side with the hinge.

Hurt. Really.

And the horrible crushing sound didn’t help at all.

Thankfully Teng stopped the door before my finger fell off. But it left this really disgusting and deep dent on my finger which only subsided over the night. Now my finger is swollen, unable to bend, and numb on the top.

=\

And purple on some sides.

My current favorite video, though it’s really old now…

Got the contracts back from France. Poor things have flown all over the world. From France to Singapore then back then now back in Singapore. And I’ll be carrying them back to France again. Going to get my Visa done on Monday… And set up a bank account… alot of things to settle and remember to do before I go…

Next week is the exam week… Gosh…

And I need to hand in my animation on Monday…

My finger hurts…

April in Pixels

Posted by Ying Huang on April 15, 2008

Aaaaaannnndddd

All of a sudden it’s April now.

And exam time.

And just 14 more days before I leave for Paris. =\ A tad nerve-wracking since I’ll be there alone for nearly 3 months, but at the same time horribly exciting. Ubisoft has decided to pay for my plane tickets there and back as well as supply me with a place to stay! =D And 19 restaurant vouchers per month. Lol. Also excited about visiting all the museums there with my parents while they are still there with me. It’s been a while since I got to hang out with them.

ONNNNN THE OTHER HAAAANNNDDD

The new “food complex” that has taken over Canteen A has risen out of the dust and apparent nowhere to become yet another gleaming heap of blue glass in the remote island of NTU.

Launched sometime last week, the “food complex” (I don’t like calling it that… Makes me think of it as this huge factory where they pump sustenance intravenously into willing starving subjects) now houses (since today’s sudden opening of Sakae Sushi)

  1. McDonalds
  2. Subway
  3. Canadian Pizza
  4. Old Chang Kee
  5. palette (not sure if I spelled it right)
  6. Sakae Sushi

And will soon be host to a food _________ (junction/exchange/something-that-doesn’t-sound-very-food-like-or-hygienic), some cafe thing and something else that slips my mind right now.

One of the first to open was The palette, a glowing mystery in the dark. The palette sells set and ala carte western meals. And their wide range of ala carte items drew the monstrous appetites of many an NTU student into its air-conditioned bowels. But to everyone’s utter dismay, for one entire week, their resplendent menu seemed reduced to “We oh-nee haf Teli-yaki chee-ken.”

Day one in the new canteen thing! Behind is the glowing sign of Canadian Pizza that my camera phone refused to capture (because it is just too high tech to do so).

We ate Canadian Pizza 3 days out of the 4 that we spent in the new canteen. And 2 out of those 3 times, our food came with a rudely unannounced “happy meal toy”. The playing of this toy involved wrangling fried hairs out of our pizza and calamari rings. Oh the joy.

But seriously, so far Canadian Pizza was the only one to not disappoint. That bad.

With the exclusion of Sakae Sushi today. You’ll see why in a bit.

We went for Rachel’s 21st birthday party at Timbre@The Arts House on Friday night! (obviously not shown in the picture below because I retardedly forgot to snap some pictures while I was out with the girls)

It was great though, hanging out with them again. Just the bunch of us. Teng and I bought Rachel a mini watermelon! with a very cute twirly stem. =D and a bunny thingy.

We then walked over to Some Quay (can’t tell the difference between Boat and Clark), sprinkling coins at the buskers we walked past, all the way to TCC where we had cake! And stopping along the way to scream at those taking the inverse bungee and extreme swing thing. (Teng was more excited than those actually on the ride)

A sudden picture of our guitars! Mine is bigger!

And now 2 minutes to rant about some weirdo who has been desecrating the 5th floor toilet. For the past months, everyday, 2 out of the 4 toilets in the 5th floor Block 3C toilet would be clogged. We deduced it must be the same person who attempts to flush 5 and a half rolls of toilet paper down the pipes in one go, and that that person goes to the toilet only twice a day. IRON BLADDER. Like me.

The worst came on Sunday night. When this shocking discovery was made in one of the cubicles.

Do you see it? Do you? Let me make the image a bit clearer. THERE’S SHIT ON THE FLOOR. What the hell. And it sat there for the entire day (from afternoon till the next morning). Does anyone notice how nicely formed it is as well?

Then last night, horror struck again when 3 of the 4 cubicles (as shown in picture below) became magically clogged! Toilet paper girl must have had indigestion. The last cubicle (the handicapped cubicle) had these creepy looking blood smears on the door lock (which I won’t delve further into explaining for the sake of the chicken pies in my tummy).

Urgh. Anyway…

We went to Sakae Sushi-NTU today! I think they just opened either today or yesterday. It was really nice. I love what they did with the space. We got to sit on bean bags! And have the manager dance in the background.

We were even given little froggy slippers to wear! (cause we all had to remove our shoes)

Perhaps we can have this idea in the cafe… =) Would be nice. though extremely filthy after a couple of months. Need to find those missing bean bags again. Frustrating how they keep going missing. And the nail-gnawing excitement of having our assets stock-taken is not extremely enjoyable.

I’m happy with the new sushi place!

And I love the slippers.

Today was coincidentally our last day opening the cafe. The past couple days, Teng and I have been running it alone so the committee members can study for their exams. Not too bad, studying while working. Managed to do some business finance, and finish my animatic. =) I’m still right on schedule. Tonight, after I finish my animation reel, I just need to concentrate on my 2 papers next week.

It’s been great, running the cafe. Watching people come by, sit down for a chat over a coffee, tell us they love the cafe, really made all the running about, fighting, incessant liaising, hundreds out of our own pockets really worthwhile. I sincerely hope the next committees would carry it on, and maybe, years from now when I come back to visit, it’ll still be there (preferably not still on that rickety cart).

We’ll be open for the last time this academic year specially for the best of ADM show. It’s been a good run. I’m very proud of the committee for sticking with me through this, though we’ve all got crazy amounts of work to do. Special thanks to Shao Ning who (though it’s really not in her portfolio to be doing so) really came through with the food and was always dependable in times of crisis (which was an every other day event).

All in all, I’m leaving on the 29th with a rather heavy heart that I won’t be able to be so hands on with the club. But the measures I’m putting in place should be ableĀ  to keep things going swimmingly. =\

And of course I’m going to miss Teng Teng like a melted puddle of ice cream smeared across the sidewalk by a passing llama cart…

I’m really not pleased. And mildly offended.

And very hungry. Forgot to eat dinner.
