=D
Today was actually Day 2 on the job, but yesterday night was taken up moving into my new apartment. (pictures slow to load…)

The studio itself is awesome. While the outside is nothing to gawk about, the inside is everything I expected a studio to be. The buzz of computers, the incessant clatter to keys on a keyboard and cacophony of mouse clicks. Ubisoft Paris has 3 locations – 2 production offices and one giant admin building along rue Armand Carrell (as usual, no idea how to spell it). The studio is working on 5 projects now, most of which I cannot talk about since they’re so top secret. =D
I love my studio. My entire studio (which is in the newer side of the production office) is dedicated to the production of a totally top secret game currently still in preproduction. My job, along with the 3 other animators on the job, is to try to give the characters attitude and personality immediately and subconsciously recognizable at a glance. Very interesting.
I work with a dual-screen PC and with Motion Builder, along with a host of Ubisoft’s in house programs. The entire room is covered from wall to wall in concept art. Gorgeous concept art! I’m considered to be under the art department since we’re still in preproduction stage. The game itself, which I can only call L*****tte (sorry, top secret), sounds awesome so far. I’ve played the predecessor game back in Singapore and loved it. So working on this project is totally wicked. =D
But I still love em rabbids….
My manager said if I do well, he’ll bring me to see the rabbids one day… =D
My manager is a really nice guy who’s been trying to teach me MotionBuilder over the past couple of days. Everyone in the studio is really friendly, saying hi and bye when people come and go. Some people have also offered to help me with regards to animation, living in Paris and all… =)
I crammed all my tutorials today so I can get started on work proper. In my opinion, Motion Builder is an extremely powerful tool that is definitely many times more powerful than Maya. The layers system is only part of it. The characterization function is a savior to animators. =)
I really wouldn’t mind working in Ubisoft Singapore…
I’m supposed to be meeting the lady from Ubisoft Paris who will be going to Singapore to help with the setting up sometime this week.
Everyday, I’ve been walking to and from work, coming back to have dinner with my parents who take a train down from downtown Paris to Montreuil to meet me. =) Thursday will be a public holiday so I’ll be spending tomorrow and Thursday night in Kléber.
In the rest of the world…
The world is currently in shock with the news of cyclone Nargis slamming into Myanmar. While the world scrambles to their aid, I can’t help but feel that the CNN I rely on for my daily English-language fix is rather skewed.
CNN reports only that US troops are waiting in Thailand for the go-ahead from the Myanmar government to provide their USD3.5b worth of aid and soldiers.
For one, I can be certain that Singapore, Thailand, and other ASEAN countries have already mobilized troops and are already on the scene. But of course, that’s not choice news for the western punters. And what really takes the cherry off my pie is that USA will only provide aid on the condition that Myanmar abides by the former’s requests with regards to politics. Sounds alot like extortion to me. Extortion in their time of need. Dangling hope in front of their citizens, telling them what they want out of this. Do you hear any of the other countries or aid organizations doing this? Pisses me the hell off.
Ending picture for today. Pa putting on “lipstick”.

Ah well… Need to go to bed soon. Work tomorrow
I miss you, baby…
