Yes I know, I have been away for about five thousand years now, but with good reason. And now, I’m back! Mostly because of all the lovely comments and emails I’ve been getting encouraging me to pick up the proverbial pen again and continue on with my journeys through medical school.
You haven’t missed much really. I just started my 3rd year yesterday.
Let’s first begin with a massive photo post. For pictures speak a thousand words, and my mind can only conjure up short sentences in it’s extreme exhaustion. It’s the sort of feeling you get when you’ve just finished with a holiday but feel like you’ve barely even gotten to sit down.
Photo from the recent Pride March Victoria held this Sunday. It’s quite a step up from my first pride march in Adelaide at the conference last year. The crowds were nothing less than INTENSE.

Lots of my holiday was spent goofing around with friends.

Hanging out with family.

And people who werent physically there

We did some traveling

Experienced Bali’s extreme hospitality

Had some awesome Babi Guling

Saw some grass

And terrifying temple monkeys

Some breathtaking views

And some fire breathing ones

Got to spend Chinese New Year in Singapore for the first time in 3 years. That was the highlight of my trip really. Being swept up in the hustle and bustle of all the festivities. Funny how you miss these things when you’re away, but find them a drag if you’re home for too long.
I got to do a short 3 week attachment with the General Surgery department in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. It was quite an eye-opener, it being my first attachment at a public hospital and getting to interact with patients and understanding the concerns of local patients. Not to mention how to communicate in a variety of languages. Extremely useful when, just one week into my attachment, I saw a cyclist get knocked over by 2 cars. I attempted to go provide some medical assistance, but she could only speak Malay. With my extremely limited Malay, I managed to ascertain that aside from some superficial bruising on her arms, she was alright and didn’t want to go to the hospital.
But after all that, we had to go home.

I’ll sorely miss everyone back home. Especially my extremely patient girlfriend (we just celebrated our 1st year together! Yipee!) This year, I have rotations in GP, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We start in GP, with my Mondays and Wednesdays at the Notting Hill campus for lectures and tutorials, and my Tuesdays and Thursdays at GP clinics.
Had my first GP session today actually. It was beyond hectic, and we got to see quite a number of patients and varieties of illnesses, including some I’ve only read about in textbooks. Some of the patients tried convincing me to reconsider my decision to pursue Surgery as a specialty and instead think about GP or medicine. Only time can tell really.
Righto. Time to print some notes and head to bed.
